Behind Closed Doors

Behind Closed Doors is a collaboration with the Bohra bookbinders. After countless hours photographing the Bohra Muslims home the doors opened and I was invited in to cook, to engage in conversation over a warm meal. Two hand painted books were created of their homes made with hand loomed cotton Gandhi fabric, created by Gandhi in order bring production back to India.

In the series Behind Closed Doors, Katiushka made silkscreens of photographs taken of the Bohra homes as well as a series of enlarged wood replica of the window grates then painted with natural dyes such as turmeric, mushrooms, achiote, etc.
