Lightning from the East

Lightning from the East is a video installation comissioned by Exit Art for the Holiday Window Display in December 2005. The installation consists of three 12” screens with a washed out image of K is projected in three parts. 64 white doves are placed over a fluorescent tube of light facing towards the screens, forming a cross. The video installation is a nativity honoring the Chinese religious sect “Lightning from the East”, which venerates and believes that a 30 year old Chinese woman is Jesus’ reincarnation. She lives in the southern Chinese mountains, has never been photographed and is currently writing the Third Testament, which predicts the end of the world. This religious group has more than 1,000,000 followers.

Lightning from the East es una instalación de video comisionada por Exit Art para la exhibición Holiday Window Display en Diciembre 2005. La instalación consiste en 3 monitores de 12” donde una imagen de K, dividida en tres, se proyecta. 64 palomas blancas iluminadas por luces fluorescentes, crean dos pilares, generando, junto a los monitores, una cruz. El video es un “pesebre” para la secta religiosa China “Lightning from the East”, religión que profesa el renacimiento de Cristo en una mujer China que actualmente vive en las montañas, al sur de China, nunca a sido fotografiada y acaba de terminar de escribir el Tercer Testamento, donde profesa el fin del mundo. La religión tiene mas de 1.000.000 de seguidores.
